1928 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
William A. (Bill) Horn was born in Greeley, Colorado June 21, 1928, to George O. and Clara K. (Moore) Horn. He passed away April 16, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley care unit in Sun City, Arizona.
Bill attended his first three years of school in Loveland, Colorado. From 1937 to 1945, the family resided in DeBeque, Ouray and Nucla, Colorado. In 1945 the Horn family moved to Akron, Colorado where Bill attended high school.
On November 14, 1945, Bill entered Active Duty in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard weather forecasting ships in Tsingtao and Shanghai, China. He was honorably discharged on August 15, 1947.
Bill lived in Maine for a brief period from Spring to Fall 1948. He returned to Akron, Colorado, and on October 18, 1949, Bill began working as a lineman with the Y-W Electric Association. He became a line superintendent in May 1955. He left the company October 18, 1968. That same month, Bill began another career with the U.S. Federal Government working for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as a lineman and hydroelectric power systems dispatcher. He had jobs in Page and Phoenix, Arizona, and Loveland and Montrose, Colorado, until 1981. That year he became a power systems instructor in Golden, Colorado, with the Western Area Power Administration under the Department of Energy. Bill retired from the Western Area Power Administration in September 1993.
Bill met Betty Lou Reese in 1949. They married December 24, 1952 in Longmont, Colorado. The couple had one daughter, Katharine.
Bill was active as a Boy Scout leader, Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge, holding several offices in the lodge in Colorado and Arizona. He was a volunteer with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Posse in Sun City West, Arizona. He was a member of the American Legion. He volunteered with the Honor Guard at National Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Arizona. Bill was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his wife, daughter and other family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara Horn, an infant sister, Naomi; his father-in-law Earl Reese; mother-in-law Dollie Reese; brother-in-law Jack Reese; nephew Randy Reese. He leaves behind his wife Betty Lou of Sun City West, Arizona and his daughter, Katharine of Glendale, Arizona; his sisters, Mary Ann Scarbrough and Emma Jean Brown; brother David Horn; brothers-in-law Lenos Scarbrough, Dean Brown and Ray Churchill; sisters-in-law Bonnie Horn and Patty Churchill.
A service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West, Arizona at 11:00 A.M. Viewing will be at 10:00 A.M.
