Yvonne "Vonnie" (Johnson) Monasmith Obituary
Yvonne (Vonnie) Monasmith passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016, in Denver, Colorado at the age of 80.
Yvonne Danette Johnson arrived on October 2, 1935, in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. She was the third child born to Lora and Ellis Johnson.
She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1952 in the Wiggins Community Church. She later took instruction in the Lutheran faith in 1955 and was a faithful member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burlington, Colorado for 50 years. Education was an important part of Vonnie's life. She attended grade school in Grover, Colorado, and graduated from Wiggins High School in 1953. She graduated from Colorado State University in 1959 with a B.S. in Home Economics Education.
Vonnie married Donald Monasmith, from Chase County, Nebraska, on August 8, 1954. Six children were born to this union: Daryl Duane, Lanette Marye, Bryce Neil, Daneen Yvette, Devin Blaine, and Byron Gene. For the 30 years of her married life, the family was involved in and busy with school, church, sports, music and 4-H activities. She was a substitute teacher and did secretarial work for ten years before she started teaching full time. Vonnie taught for 22 years in the Burlington School District, primarily at the elementary school. She retired in 1999 and enjoyed watching her 12 grandchildren participate in their activities.
Vonnie's first grandchild, Alissa, arrived in 1983. She was blessed with eleven more grandchildren: Phillip, Dillon, Danika, Colton, Jamie, Jacy, Kendall, Mark, Maura, Lindsay, and Marissa. In the last five years, she has also been blessed with four great-grandsons: Kendan, Kooper, Triston, and Kyran.
Those who knew Vonnie best will remember her love for homemaking skills: sewing, baking, and decorating. She also enjoyed dancing and playing games, especially bridge and pinochle. After moving to Windsor Gardens in Denver in 2011, Vonnie had more time to pursue her hobbies and passions until she experienced declining health.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister, Muriel, and two brothers, Loral and Lanning. She is survived by sisters-in-law: Elna Johnson of Imperial Nebraska and Kathy Johnson of Alexandria Minnesota; children: Daryl Monasmith of Wray, Lanette Ehresman (Tom) of Windsor, Bryce Monasmith (Kendra) of Akron, Daneen Jostes (Kent) of Akron, Devin Monasmith (Linda) of Denver, and Byron Monasmith of Tokyo, Japan; grandchildren: Dillon Monasmith, Jacy Monasmith (fiancée Katie), Mark Ehresman (Emily), Marissa Ehresman, Kendall Monasmith, Alissa Bowers (Brandon), Phillip Jostes (fiancée Megan), Danika Maxwell (Braydon), Maura Hernandez (T.J.), Colton Monasmith, Jamie Lueck (Reiner), Lindsay Monasmith; great-grandchildren Triston Bowers, Kendan Hernandez, Kooper Hernandez and Kyran Hernandez; three cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Vonnie will be remembered as a loving mother and a devoted friend. A memorial service will be conducted at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burlington, Colorado on October 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Hanson officiating. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Ft. Morgan, Colorado at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burlington, Colorado.
