Oleta Olma Ward, 97, died on August 7, 2013 in Tavares, Florida. Oleta was born to Vera and Wesley Rorick in Stanton County, Kansas on November 10, 1915.|
Oleta attended elementary and high school in Johnson, Kansas. She graduated from Emporia Teachers College and taught school in Johnson.
Alfred Ward Jr. and Oleta were married in 1938. They moved to Akron, Colorado in 1947 where they raised their sons Al M. and Randy. Alfred Jr. passed away in 2001. Oleta moved to Florida in 2008.
Oleta was an accomplished musician. She played the organ and piano at the Akron United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful roses and peonies. She liked playing bridge with friends and family and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was a wonderful cook, everyone looked forward to her delicious desserts.
Oleta and Alfred Jr. were charter members of the International Flying Farmers. They enjoyed travelling with the group and hosting "fly ins" at their ranch south of Akron. They also went on road trips in their RV to Alaska and Mexico. Even though they travelled extensively, they were always glad to return home to Akron.
OIeta was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Al Jr; her parents Vera and Wes, brother Guy Rorick; sister Hazel Gay; and grandson Troy Ward.
She is survived by her sons Al M. and wife Jo of Eustis, Florida, Randall of Ogallala, NE and daughter-in-law Ellen; grandchildren Christina Klos and husband Mike of Omaha, Ne, Cassandra Ward of Fort Collins, CO, and Derek Ward of Golden, CO; and great-grandchildren Eric and Leah Klos and Ian Ward.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Akron Cemetery.
