Jackie Eugene "Jack" Goodwin Obituary
Jackie (Jack) Eugene Goodwin of Akron, CO passed away on December 12th, 2013. Jack was born June 17, 1925 to Pearley and Carrie Goodwin in Mendota, Missouri. He moved at a young age with his family to Burns, KS where he farmed the family homestead with his father and brothers. He joined the Merchant Marines and served his country in 1944-1945. Jack told many stories about the numerous ports he visited throughout his years of service. He loved his country and continued to be patriotic throughout his life. He was united in marriage to Loyette Hepler and her daughter Dianna in Newton, KS on August 19, 1949. To this union a son John William (J.W.) was born. Loyette preceded him in death on June 12, 1989. Jack continued farming in the Burns area and also became a welder at American Petrofina in El Dorado, KS where he worked repairing railroad tank cars, rising to superintendent of that department. In 1967 Jack and his family moved to Independence, KS where he started a railroad car repair business, which four years later was relocated to Neodesha, KS. Jack eventually moved to Denver, CO where he ran a railroad car repair business until his first retirement at age 65. Jack met Marjory Lambertson in Sterling, CO. After tiring of retirement, they moved to Woodward, OK in 1991, where once again he was a foreman and ran the Woodward Railcar Repair Company. They joined in marriage on March 11, 1998. Upon his 2nd retirement, Jack and Marjory moved to Akron, CO. in 2004. Jack is survived by his wife Marjory, a son John Goodwin (Vickie) of Sioux Falls, SD, a daughter Dianna Nuessen (John) of Little Rock, AR, step-daughter Bobbi Hawkinson and step-son Don Lambertson (Jeannie) of Akron, CO, Cheryl Wynn (Paul) of Arvada, CO, Patti Bashor and Debbie Lucas (Scott) of Greeley, CO and Terri Butz of Loveland, CO, 28 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Loyette and two brothers, Phillip and Chester and grandson Blair Worthley. A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Foursquare Church of Akron, Colorado. Interment will be Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Burns Cemetery in Burns, Kansas. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Nursing Home, 465 Main Ave. Akron, CO 80720. Bowin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
