Gerbitz, Maria
Maria passed away Oct. 20, 2013, at her residence in Tularosa. She was born Aug. 6, 1960, in New Orleans, La., to Rita E. and Louis DeMarco. Maria aka ³the waitress from hell² to all her patrons in Otero County was half owner with her husband, Calvin R. Gerbitz, of Maria¹s Hiredhand Café.
All of Maria¹s dreams came true when she and her husband moved to the Tularosa Basin over 20 years ago. She first started as a waitress at the Alamorosa Truck Stop to working her way up to owning her own restaurant.
Maria loved to cook and serve her customers good food, good conversation, and good friendship.
Maria was proceeded in death by both parents, brother¹s Malcolm and Marvin Thibodeaux from Raceland, La.; and grandson Robert Gerbitz of Mount Hermon, La.
Survivors include husband, Calvin Gerbitz, of their Tularosa home; a son Joseph C. DeMarco, two daughters Cassandra and Melody DeMarco, three stepsons Michael, Randy and Bobby Joe Gerbitz; a step daughter Victoria Gerbitz, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson, of Mount Hermon, and one great-granddaughter, of Louisiana.
Maria was loved by everyone she came in contact with and is greatly missed.
Memorial will be held at the Tularosa Community Church at 101 Central Ave.
at 11 a.m. Nov. 7, 2013. Lunch will follow memorial service.
