Olivarez, Daniel F.  
Daniel F. Olivarez, 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in El Paso, Texas. He was born on Jan. 3, 1931, in Alamogordo, to Encarnacion and Manuela (Flores) Olivarez. Daniel joined the United States Army in 1949. He fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for courage and valor in February 1951. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. After discharge from the Army, he came home to Alamogordo and worked for the Alamogordo Public Schools until he retired. Survivors include his daughter Patricia Olivarez of Alamogordo, son Daniel Olivarez Jr. and his wife Risa, and grandchildren, Karlee and Cody Olivarez of Las Cruces. He is also survived by his brothers Joe Olivarez and his wife Mable of Alamogordo, Manuel Olivarez of California and his sister Mary Sida and her husband Tito of Alamogordo -- along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Olivarez, his parents, and one brother and sister. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Ave., by Mrs. Toni Gutierrez. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Juan Trujillo, Victor Salazar, Joaquin Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Michael Montoya and Joe Olivarez. The Olivarez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home, Inc. to direct the funeral services.
