Alice Mary May, 87, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Feb. 3, 1926, and a longtime resident of Alamogordo, went to meet her Lord and Maker on Jan. 3, 2014.
She was the family's firstborn American citizen, her family entering the United States via Ellis Island.
She was employed with civil service at White Sands Missile Range where she met her life partner, Cecil Lee May in 1962. They were married Dec. 20,
1963 in El Paso. Lee and Alice moved to Alamogordo in Oct. 1965. Together they built their dream home in 1969 and continued to live there until their passing. Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member and past president of the Desert Lioness Club and a lifetime member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. Alice loved to sew, do crafts, read a good book and cook. She made the best "melt in your mouth" Norwegian fruit bread. She also loved all animals, and those lucky enough to live with her were treated as humans.
Alice leaves behind her daughter Connie Hoey and husband Rick, granddaughter Kerri Smith, great granddaughter Rebecca Smith, great grandson Joshua Thompson and all of La Luz.
She was preceded in passing by her life mate Cecil Lee May, son Thomas Myers, sister Theresa Pfister, brother Kenneth Evans, and her parents Frithjof and Emma Phillips Olsen.
At Alice's request, no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alamogordo Evening Lions Club for the Dog Leadership Program for the Blind.
The May family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
