Bruce Carlton Berry(1948 - 2014)

Bruce Carlton Berry, 65.
Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away on Jan. 29, 2014, at his home in Las Cruces. He was born on March 13, 1948, in Vicksburg, Mich.
His first school years were spent attending a DoD school at Wheelus Air Force Base, Tripoli, Libya, and Bloomingdale Elementary in Bloomingdale, Ill.
After the death of his father, he moved with his mother and sisters to Bronson, Mich., where he completed third grade. In 1957, he and his family moved to Vicksburg and here he completed his high school education. After graduation from Western Michigan University, with a degree in education, Bruce worked a short time at Clark Equipment Company in Battle Creek, Mich., before relocating to Alamogordo.
Here he earned a New Mexico real estate license and worked at 4-Plex Real Estate. He sought and secured a teaching position in Alamogordo Public Schools.
He married Anne Walls, who passed away in 2000. Together, they had two children, Jill and Megan.
Bruce was a dedicated teacher at Sacramento and Sierra Elementary Schools and Chaparral Middle School, retiring in 2004.
On Dec. 22, 2003, he married Susan Jewell and moved to Las Cruces.
A very humorous guy, he always had a joke, movie quote or song to add to almost every conversation. He, and his wit, will be greatly missed. Bruce enjoyed golfing, swimming, reading, traveling and sharing laughter with his family and friends. He was a gentle, compassionate man, always concerned about the well-being of others. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed going to see the New Mexico State University Aggies play basketball.
Bruce volunteered as part of the auxiliary at Memorial Hospital in Las Cruces.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Susan, his two daughters Jill Lesney (Josh) and Megan Berry, his grandson Elliot Smith, his sisters Christine Bock (Michael), Lorrie Francis (Gregory) and Patricia Haas (David); his mother-in-law Frances Coats; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Avadna Berry Vander Veen and Carlton Berry and step-father John Vander Veen.
A Celebration of Life is planned at 3: p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, 1334 N. Scenic Dr, Alamogordo.
