The sun shone brighter in Tularosa, on April 23, 1936, as God loaned us Burley Leroy Nowell for a while. God called him back home on Dec. 23, 2013.
The sun was not so bright for us on this day as he left his family and friends for his heavenly home.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Freddie; two sons Wesley and Brad; daughter-in-law Cindy; three grandchildren Raif Nowell and his wife, Shana, Angie Joy and husband, Jared, and Cory Nowell and his wife, Jaclyn; four great-grandchildren Warrick, Arya Nowell, Jewel Joy and Claria Nowell; two brothers Lonnie Nowell and his wife, Elanie, and Elbert Nowell; sister-in-law Gay Cater and her husband, Don; mother-in-law Ruth Mandrofsky; and several nieces and nephews.
Of those who God took before him were his father Burley Nowell, mother Helen Nowell, two brothers Ronnie Gene and Jessie William Nowell; and great-grandson Tristian Nowell along with a host of family and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be on Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso Downs
