Dennis A. Edwards, 57, passed away on April 14, 2013 in Alamogordo.
He was born on December 12, 1955 in Steamboat Springs, Colo., to Calvin and Phyllis Combs Edwards.
Dennis made a memorable entrance into this world by breaking his mothers hip!
From that point on, everything he did was memorable and done with enthusiasm.
Dennis learned how to ski before learning to walk, competing in Nordic events, particularly Cross Country but also competing in some Jumping events in Vail, Colo., and Littleton, Colo.
He graduated from Bear Valley High School in Lakewood, Colo., in 1974, enlisting in the Navy immediately after graduating completing basic training in San Diego.
He was stationed in Meridian, Miss. Upon leaving the Navy, Dennis attended Colorado Airotech in Broomfield where he learned the task of maintaining aircrafts. He had a short stint in Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, where he maintained helicopters. He returned to Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora,Colo., transferred to Santa Rosa, Calif. In 1990, he took a position in Alamogordo, NM with Raytheon, L-3 Communications maintaining a test aircraft (Mabel) for the Air Force.
With passion and enthusiasm, he maintained Mabel up until March of 2012.
Always saying that he would not allow his pilots to fly in Mabel if he himself did not feel safe to do so himself.
With pride, he made Mabel safe for any flight and challenge that was put to her test.
A storyteller at heart, Dennis was able to easily capture an audience. He brought smiles and laughter to everyone he came in contact with.
Survivors include his Soulmate, Mary Jane (MJ) Espinoza of Alamogordo; MJ's parents whom he called Mom and Dad, Richard and Molly Espinosa; sister, Diane Ward and husband Kim of Parker, Colo.; son, Pete E. Hernandez, III of Las Cruces; Grandchildren, Pete Hernandez IV of Medford, Ore., Skyler and Damion Mattis of Forrest City, Ark.; nieces, Becky Raucci and husband Mike of Fairfax, Va., and Katie Frick and husband Carl of Laramie, Wyoming, and great nieces and nephew, Callie, Sophia, and Jacob.
