Dorothy W. Kirk, 97, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Jan. 1, 2014, in Alamogordo. She was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Norfolk, Neb., to Edwin and Viola Oesterling Weaver, who preceded her in death.
Ms. Kirk is survived by her daughter Jacque Armstrong, of Alamogordo; her sons Charles (Gus) Kirk, of Yuma, Ariz., and Marshall Kirk, of Lansing, Mich. Dorothy was also very fond of her seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ms. Kirk lived a rich full life with the past three decades in Alamogordo, where she served on the Gerald Champion Volunteer Auxiliary since 1985. Dorothy spent her time knitting for her friend's family and grandchildren, as well as becoming a distinguished water color artist.
In her past, Ms. Kirk was a seamstress, managed a dress shop and was even a riveter for Douglas Aircraft during the World War II war effort in California. Ms. Kirk was also President of ELCA at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Washington Avenue where she was a member while living in Alamogordo.
There will be a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1212 Washington Ave., in Alamogordo.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fund. There will be no graveside services.
The Kirk family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
