Ken Tubbs passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014.
Ken was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Archer City, Texas, to Marvin Colombus and Essie Lea Tubbs. Kenneth attended high school in Lefors, Texas, and graduated from West Texas State University, Canyon, Texas, with his bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. Kenneth was a World War II
veteran and served his country faithfully as a Aviation Ordnanceman as a gunner in a Torpedo Bomber Aircraft for the U.S. Navy
. He was married to the love of his life, Vesta Grace James on Sep. 1, 1947, and they were blessed with four children, Eddie, Janie, Mike and Karen to whom they passed on the true meaning of love and family.
Ken was a craftsman by trade and taught wood shop at Dumas High School, Dumas, Texas for 35 years. He, additionally drove a school bus and filmed sports for the school district. He will be remembered by his family, friends and former students as a life changer and challenger. He always brought out the best in all, not with loud words or bluster, but with inspiration and charisma. He was a true hero who will be missed by all.
Ken is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vesta Grace Tubbs; a sister, Jo Alice Hammock, and four children and their spouses, Eddie and Connie Tubbs, Janie and Tim Galloway, Mike and Rikki Tubbs, and Karen and Miles Ledgerwood. Twelve Grandkids, and Eighteen Great-Grandkids.
He was preceded in death, by a sister, Wyvonne Osborn and a granddaughter, Kelly Rae Ledgerwood.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 Scenic, Alamogordo, New Mexico at 10 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Dumas Education Fund, P.O. Box 615, Dumas, Texas 79029, reference the Kenneth Tubbs Scholarship.
The Tubbs family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements and the funeral services.
