Larry C. Mixon, 76, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Larry was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Dallas, to Donald and Eunice Mixon. He was a former resident of Roswell, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Ruidoso, Alamogordo, Huntsville, Ala., and had resided in Laguna Vista, Texas, since 2003.
Larry graduated from New Mexico State University with an engineering degree in 1971. He worked with many different companies, including the Sandia Corp. in Albuquerque, General Dynamics Corp. of San Diego, White Sands Proving Grounds, High-Speed Test Track at Holloman Air Force Base, 6585 Test Group, Holloman, U.S. Army Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, and Mixon Technology Inc. in Alamogordo.
Larry published 71 technical reports and received many awards, including the 1986 Air Force Science and Engineering Award, the 1993 SES Presidential Meritorious Award, and was granted two U.S. patents.
He was a member of the Chapel by the Sea in South Padre Island, Texas, CAGE, NMSU, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Larry is survived by his wife, Anna J. Mixon; son Larry Wayne Mixon; grandsons Larry Jayce Mixon, Jesse Wayne Mix and Nickolas Adam Lamberson.
