Maria del Refugio Roman Lugo known by her friends and family as "Cuca" and "Nana Cuca," 77, was born June 6, 1936, in Guadalupe, DB. Chihuahua, Mexico and left this world peacefully Feb. 28, 2014 in El Paso.
Maria is survived by her husband of 51 years, Manuel Flores Lugo, her brother Lorenzo Roman, her four children Armando Lugo, Olga Deal, David Lugo and Veronica Lugo, all of Alamogordo. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren Erica White, AnnaMaria Lugo, Mario Lugo, Alicia Deal, Chrisanto Lugo, Cora Alvarez, Vanessa Lugo, Rosemary Tave, David Lugo Box, and Leonardo Pena, 20 great-grandchildren; various Lugo-Medina family members in Las Cruces; and various Ramos-Lugo family members in El Paso, and Juarez, Mexico.
Nana Cuca was an avid gardener who loved being outdoors tending to her roses and loved to spend time cooking for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her best friends AnnaMaria Cano-Ochoa, Maria Avalos Tave, and her sister-in-law Maria Ramos Lugo. She was well loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by many.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, March 7, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Mike Lindsay, Celebrant.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Alamogordo Funeral Home. The Lugo family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
