Surrounded by his loving family, Rafael Flores passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, in El Paso.
Born in El Paso, to Francisca Lopez Flores, mother, deceased, and Guadalupe Flores, father, deceased. Rafael is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosa Flores. He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters Guadalupe Flores Espinosa, Thomas Flores, Mary Gonzalez, Frank Flores, Sister Mary Dolores and Antonio Flores. He is survived by his children Lewis Woods, Linda Elm, Teresa Andrews, Mary Frances Flores and Arthur and wife, Emma Flores; and his treasured grandchildren Laura and Devin, Michelle and Elizabeth, Ryan, Jason, and Michael, Richard, Jacqueline, Anthony and Katherine, and eight great-grandchildren.
Rafael's joys in life were his family, old western movies and shows, old-time actors like John Wayne and Shirley Temple, reading especially his Louis L'amour and James Patterson novels, jigsaw puzzles, photography and talking about life experiences.
Some of his most talked about experiences included his military service in Guam and the Philippines during the Korean War, childhood experiences in El Paso and his education from grade school through his college years at Texas Western College (UTEP).
The Rosary will be recited in his honor at 9:15a.m. March 6, 2014, at St. Jude Parrish, in Alamogordo. Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. following the Rosary; reception to follow.
Inurnment will follow at 2:30 p.m. March 6, 2014, at the Columbarium at Fort Bliss.
