Sylvester "Skeet" Mattox

Sylvester "Skeet" Mattox, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 3, 2013. He was born in 1932.
Mattox had a long history of being actively involved with his community. He was an active member of the National Association for the Advancement for Color People, and later became the chapter's president, where he increased the chapter's membership to 250 people. In 1984, he was elected to the Alamogordo City Commission, where he served at mayor pro-tem for two years. He continued to help the NAACP for many years after. He served as president of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico.
He is survived his wife, Trevelyn Mattox, children Elizabeth Peterson, Trish Buckener, Trevelyn Benning, Arlenda Bradford, Isaac Monk, Bryant Monk, Daniel Monk and Shameka Monk; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mellon and six siblings.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home. Pastor Forney will be presiding over the services.
