William David Petty was born July 2, 1945, in Mobile, Ala., to Carroll Eugene and Mary Johanna Hughes Petty. He was released from the suffering brought on by chronic health problems in the early hours of May 6, 2014, in Alamogordo.
David grew up in Nashville, Tenn. with his brother and two sisters. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be in the military; ill health ended his career in the United States Air Force after 27 years. David retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. His compassion for others led him to share liberally with those in need. His gifts of unconditional friendship and laughter will remain forever in our hearts.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey David Petty; and a sister, Geraldine Petty George.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Daniel Petty and wife Kimberly and their two children, Cole Andrew and Megan Danielle of Gamaliel, Ky.; granddaughters Taylor Renee and Madeline Sue Petty who are the daughters of Jeffrey Petty; brother Benjamine Andrew Petty of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister Caroline Petty Broadrick of Greenbrier, Tenn.; his church family, close friends and six cats.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
The Petty family has entrusted their loved one to the care of alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
