William Van Kowatch (known as Bill) of Tularosa passed on Tuesday July 8, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1933, in French Camp, Calif., the son of William and Bernice Kowatch.
For 22 years, Bill honorably served in the U.S. Air Force
. He served as a security police and a sky marshall for one year, receiving numerous award and certificates. He was also a veteran of the Korean War
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Irene Kowatch. Remaining to carry on his memory are his six children: daughter, Veronica Seymour and her husband Randy of Corsicana, Texas; daughter Debra Chavez and her husband Bill Roy of Tularosa; son William (Bill) Kowatch and his wife Pauline of San Pedro, Calif.; son Louie Kowatch and his wife Gina of Tularosa; son John Kowatch and his wife Margie of Big Springs, Texas, and daughter Andrea Toogood and her husband Gary of Las Vegas, Nev.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Ron Sanchez, Taviana Blanchard, Felicity Merkel, Chris Chavez, Aaron Chavez, Trisha Coney, Nash Kowatch, Cynthia Gayiola, William Kowatch, Tina Pierce, John Louis Kowatch and Craig Burns. He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren and his sister Barbara Hughes of Stockton, Calif.
Other than the love of his family, Bill will best be remembered by his service through the American Legion and The Fraternal Order of Eagles of Alamogordo. He was an active member of Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. Bill had a zest for helping people, fishing and endless joke telling.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Friday, July 18, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa by Steve and Liz Chavez. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m.with Father Carlos Espinoza, Celebrant.
The Kowatch family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
