Leo G. Chavez
Leo G. Chavez, 70, passed away June 27, 2013, with his family at his side.
Leo was born in Carrizozo Sept. 10, 1942, to Luis B. and Margarita G. Chavez. He will be remembered as a man of great faith with a deep love for God, his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved life and entertaining friends and family. He had a great sense of humor. He was an avid pool player and fisherman. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Leo was raised in Alamogordo and early in his career served as a fireman for the Alamogordo Fire Department. He moved to California in 1964, where he worked in the semiconductor field. In 1998, he and Ramona returned to Alamogordo to be with family and retire.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ramona M. Chavez; father Luis B. Chavez, mother Margarita Chavez, and brothers Ray and Ricardo.
He is survived by two sons John J. Chavez, of the family home, and Steven L. Chavez, of San Jose, Calif.; two grandsons John Jr., of Odessa, Texas; and Eugene, of San Jose; one-granddaughter Angelisa, of Hollister, Calif.; three great-grandsons Isaiah, Michael and Jaxon; two great-granddaughters Kaylesia and Abigail; brother Philip Chavez, of Bend, Ore.; sisters Mary Garcia, of Alamogordo, Mela Chapman, of Albuquerque, and Teresita Vigil, of Los Lunas; and a very special friend Maria Olivarez.
Rosary will be recited by the family at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at St. Jude's Parish. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the church following the rosary with Fr. Tom Hoffman, S. J., Celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers are John Chavez, Jr., Gene Chavez, Isaiah Hernandez, Michael Chavez and Jaxon Floore.
Interment will take place following the Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
The Chavez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
