Ricki Val Brown, 62, passed away suddenly on Dec. 5, 2013, in Dallas, Texas. She was born Aug. 21, 1951 in Alamogordo, Ruth and Martin Brown.
Ricki graduated from Alamogordo High School, New Mexico State University and University of Denver, where she completed her masters in library science. Ricki moved to Hattiesburg, Miss., where she worked for the Hattiesburg Public Library as the assistant director while studying toward her MBA degree from University of Southern Mississippi, which she received in 1979. Ricki next worked in Fayetteville, N.C., at the city library, again as assistant director.
In 1998, Ricki moved closer to home and continued her career as the library airector in Abilene, Texas, a job she loved and held until the time of her passing.
Ricki was an avid traveler, starting her adventures during high school when she spent a year as an exchange student in Brazil, with Rotary International. She loved reading, studying family genealogy, her cats Sara and Flossie, her late cat, Miss Kitty, her friends, family, Christmas and the town of Abilene.
Ricki was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Brown, who passed away on June 22, 2013.
She is survived by her father Martin, her brother Dale and his wife, Barbara, all of Las Cruces,; niece Tracy, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and nephew Danie, of New York City; her sister Vicki Dazzo and her husband, Sam, of Albuquerque; and nieces Merrick, of Albuquerque, and Sydney, studying in Boulder, Colo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ricki's name may be made to Abilene Library Agency Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Abilene. A memorial service will take place in Abilene at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Abilene Civic Center Conference Center. Private burial will take place in Alamogordo.
