Robert Wolsey "(Bob)" Teller Obituary
Robert Wolsey (Bob) Teller, 83, a long-time resident of Alamogordo, passed away peacefully at The Aristocrat in Alamogordo, Sept. 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Bob was born on Aug. 9, 1930, in Raymondville, Texas, to Raymond H. and Ida Mae Wilson Teller.
Bob grew up in San Angelo, Texas and attended San Angelo Junior college but soon followed in the footsteps of his father and brothers by serving his country. He enlisted in the United States Army and, after basic training at Ft. Ord California, was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He was assigned to the 1st Guided Missile Group as a radar technician at White Sands Proving Ground which later became White Sands Missile Range.
He married the love of his life, Frances Rogers, on Aug. 15, 1951, and they made their home in El Paso. After serving his country, he was hired by Land Air, Inc. at Holloman Air Force Base in November of 1953 as an unclassified electronic technician, and the young family soon relocated to Alamogordo. The company name changed several times through the years and Bob retired from DynCorp as the timing systems manager in Dec. 1995 after 42 years of service. After raising his family, Bob returned to college to finish his degree and graduated in 1981 from Park College with a Bachelor of Arts in Management, Magna Cum Laude.
Bob was a charter member of the White Sands Missile Range pioneer group.
He was an active member of Grace United Methodist church for more than 55 years and served on many committees through the years as well as teaching fifth and sixth-grade Sunday school. He also served as an usher and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Bob and his wife, Frances, were very active members of several local square dance clubs and served as officers on the local and state level and were inducted into the New Mexico Square and Round Dance Hall of Fame in 2012.
Bob touched many young people's lives through his leadership roles in the scouting and church programs. He was a great mentor and kept in touch with many of these young people through the years as they would often stop by to visit, seek advice or thank him for the influence he had made on their lives.
He was a very patriotic man who loved his country and proudly flew his American flag every day. He was a great husband, father, father-in-law, teacher and friend who loved his family and his Lord. Bob took pride in his family and could always be counted on to guide with a strong, firm but loving hand.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances N. Rogers Teller, and their four children Lorraine Lockey and husband, John (Jack), of Albuquerque; Steve Teller and wife, Rene, of Alamogordo; Janet Holmgren and husband, Wilfred (Wolf), of Woodward, Okla.; and Dave Teller and wife, Mae, of Fort Sumner. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Our beloved husband and father was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Riser officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
