Arnulfo H. Gonzalez, Sr. died peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 1, 2013. He was born to Transito Gonzalez Sr. and Manuela H. Gonzalez on March 5, 1923. He was 90 years old when the Lord decided to take him home.
Arnulfo was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. He brought his wife, Maria Luisa, and growing family to Alamogordo around 58 years ago. He owned Gonzalez Painting for over 30 years and then he passed it down to his youngest son Joe. He continued to work at Gonzalez Painting until he was in his 80s.
When the family insisted that he retired-he still worked on his rent houses and around his own home. At the age of 89, to everyone's surprise, he decided to paint their home "pink" and he did most of the work himself. He was a very hard working man that loved his family very much; especially the grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face. Arnulfo loved to tease and make people laugh He enjoyed going for coffee at McDonalds and made a lot friends while he was there. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Arnulfo is survived by his wife, Maria Luisa, of almost 71 years and their eight children and their mates Arnulfo Gonzalez Jr. and his wife, Cecelia, of Alamogordo, Julieta Maynez and her husband, Raymundo, of Alamogordo, Licha Estrada and her husband, Horacio, of El Paso, Virginia Morales and her husband, Manuel, of Alamogordo, Joe Gonzalez and his wife, Patty, of Alamogordo, Maria Gutierrez and her husband, Ernest, of Alamogordo, Veronica McGhee, of Ruidoso, and Suzy Signorelli and her husband, Mike, of Hurricane, West Virginia.
At the time of his passing, he had 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ruperto Gonzalez, Transito Gonzalez Jr., Estevan Gonzalez, Fransico Gonzalez and Miguel Gonzalez; and his sisters Ramona Vargas, Maria Estella Rodriquez and Luz Arenas.
Arnulfo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Luziano Gonzalez and Apolin Gonzalez and by two sisters Consuelo Nakamuraa and Eva Estrada.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. after the Rosary with Father Mike Lindsay, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013,. at Alamogordo Funeral Home located at 2301 First Street.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Maynez, Ernesto Gutierrez, Michael Estrada, Alfredo Morales Jr., Fredrick (Petey) Thompkins and Joshua Vela.
Kimberly Gonzalez, JoLena Nunn and Diana Vela will present the gifts.
He has left so many memories behind and will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
