Carl married Shirley (Sammons) Cook whom he met in Reno, Nev., while serving with the United States Air Force at Stead Air Force Base. They lived in Alamogordo for over 50 years where they raised two sons and one daughter. He was employed by Land-Air (Dynalectron, DynCorp, New Tec, TRAX) from 1959 to July 2014 except for the nine years he spent in Saudi Arabia working for the Arabian American Oil Co (ARAMCO) as a project engineer.
He was a deacon and a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alamogordo for many years. After moving to Las Cruces to be near his children for health reasons, he became a member of Valley View Baptist Church. While in Alamogordo, he volunteered for several years as a American Association of Retired Persons tax aide maintaining the computer equipment.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; two sons, Jerry and Steve; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Daniel Montoya, and his four grandchildren: Shaun (Bobby) Hobson of Las Cruces; Shelly (Mike) Cowden of Aztec; Shannon (Scott) Drake of Alamogordo, and Randy Montoya of Las Cruces. Carl is also survived by his four siblings; Glenn (Eleanor) Cook, David Jay, Marilyn Jay and Don (Jackie) Jay, along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Carl's great loves in life were his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; his extended family; his church families; and his work family. He always had a smile for each. He will be missed greatly by all.

Thanks and extreme gratitude during his illness goes to Dr. Greenfield, Kristina Benavidez and the other staff of Memorial Medical Cancer Center.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Valley View Baptist Church, 4175 Lavender, Las Cruces, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014.
