Charles Ray Booker, 78, formerly of Altus, Okla., and Glendale, Ariz., and currently of Alamogordo, beloved husband of Laura E. Booker, went to the arms of his father on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
Charlie was born May 11, 1934, in Headrick, Okla., to Cecil R. and Bernice E. Booker. He graduated from Headrick High School in 1949 and worked in various positions around the United States until called to the ministry.
He received his Doctorate of Theology from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1970 and preached in several churches in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico for 15 years.
From 1985 to 1997, he used his natural mechanical ability as a small appliance technician and air conditioning repair to operate a small appliance business with Laura in Altus. In 1998, he and Laura moved to Glendale, where he began another successful career driving long-haul trucks, culminating as a senior driver for Michael Most Trucking in Phoenix.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one son Charles (Clifford) Booker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura, and seven children, Cecil (Brad) Booker, Craig L. Booker, Lisa A. Currier, Kyle L. Booker, Linda D. Pollock, as well as Earl D. Adams and Judie A. Bradley and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charlie was a 32nd degree Mason and life member of the Altus Masonic Lodge 62, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge 1629 and Legion Chapter 211 in Alamogordo.
Charlie donated his body to science as a way to continue service to his fellow man.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the Masonic Temple, 1100 Vermont Drive, Alamogordo. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, to send donations to the Shriners' Hospital or Moose charities.
