Clement "Red" Yannacone
Clement "Red" Yannacone, 83, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from complications due to lung cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on April 22, 1930, in Plainfield, N.J.
Red graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree and earned a master's degree from Pepperdine University.
One of his proudest moments was being awarded his pilot wings and becoming a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Red served two tours as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, along with being stationed at numerous bases in the United States, the Air Force Academy, Okinawa, Ethiopia and multiple countries in Europe.
He was awarded numerous Air Force medals throughout his military career. He was an active member of the River Rats and Sabre jets, along with being a tow plane pilot for the local towing club. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, served on the airport board, Officer's Club board, and was chairman of the Planning and Zoning board, along with being president of the Board of Realtors. Red loved football and boxing, and was an ardent Dallas Cowboys fan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice Yannacone, of Alamogordo; son Michael Yannacone and wife, Denise, of Kingston, Tenn.; son Randy Yannacone and wife, Shannon, of Fort Lupton, Colo., son Chris Yannacone and partner, Toby, of Garland, Texas; granddaughter Sarah Eledge of Tennessee; great-granddaughter Abby Eledge; and great-grandson Lijah Eledge of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his father Clement Anthony Yannacone Sr.; his mother Mary Yannacone; and his brother Nicolas Yannacone.
No services are planned per Red's request.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association or the The Yannacone family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O¹Dell Funeral Home for cremation.
