Espiridion "Pilo" Martinez, 84, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, in Tularosa. He was born on Aug. 26, 1929, in Vado, to Amador and Manuela Mendoza Martinez.
Pilo proudly served his country in the United States Army. He loved his family and was a great friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand. Pilo enjoyed growing a garden and using the fruits of his labor in his cooking. He was an avid reader of current events, westerns and New Mexico history. He loved football season, "Go Raiders!" and yes, the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his daughters Lupe Martinez, of Tularosa, Angelica Martinez of Glencoe, Maria Martinez-Fernandez, of Bent; grandson Mikey Martinez, of Stoneybrook, N.Y.' granddaughter Karolrosa Fernandez, of Bent; sisters Ofelia Chaffino, of Las Cruces, Elfida Davalos, of Milwaukee, Ore., and Dora Triste, of Las Cruces; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and love of his life, Maria Rosa K. Martinez; siblings Antonia Holguin, Johnny Martinez, Cruz Martinez, Tommy Martinez, Amador Martinez, Ralph Martinez, Sotero Martinez and Benjamin Martinez.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church, Tularosa, with Fr. Carlos Espinoza officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tularosa.
There will be a dinner following the burial at the Bent Fire Station.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Martinez, Jesse Martinez, Benny Ramos, Benji Martinez, David Vigil and Randy Valles. Honorary pallbearers are Mikey Martinez, Ralph Martinez, Jr., Narcizo Keeme, Alfredo Keeme Sr., Humberto Keeme, Al Keeme Jr., James Hiles Sr. and Bonifacio Reyes.
The Martinez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
