Gabriel Rey Briggs, born June 17, 2003, gave up his earthly body and became Heaven's new little angel. Gabriel passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at El Paso Children's Hospital.
The Guest Book is expired.
At an early age Gabriel was diagnosed with a rare syndrome known as Hurler's Syndrome which affects his respiratory system. A few days prior to his death, we discovered that he also had cancer that we had not detected. Although he spent his life with this rare syndrome, there was rarely a day that he did not have a smile on his face.
Gabriel was the son of Michael Briggs and Annette Cordova. He is survived by his parents, his grandparents Alfred and Kathy Cordova, Robin Brusuelas, and honorary grandparents Pat and Diane Anderson; great-grandmother Frances Diehl; great-grandparents Jesse V. and Theresa Cordova; great-grandmother Veda Chee; aunts Michelle Cordova, Verlinda "Nina" Cordova, Helen Brusuelas and Pennie Anderson; uncles John Brusuelas and Dedrick Sandoval; cousins Stephanie Cordova, Alana Bostick and Joe Ray Fields; all his great-uncles, aunts and cousins.
Gabriel was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Lalo and Verlinda Sanchez; great-grandfather Charles N. Diehl; granny Theresa Yarbrough; great-uncles Raymond Sanchez and Charles M. Diehl; great-aunt Arlene Cordova; and cousin Bentley Bostick.
Gabriel had a great love for music, and anything that he could dance and make noise to. He had a great fondness for "The Wiggles," and everyone who knew or took care of Gabriel could probably sing along to "The Wiggles" songs. One of his grandma's fondest memories is when she took him to "The Wiggles" concert and he grabbed Murray the Red Wiggle's leg and would not let go. Gabriel enjoyed his time with his family and loved to make them laugh just by smiling and laughing himself.
Gabriel was a special child and everyone that came in contact with him was touched in a very special way. He had a sense of heaven surrounding him here on earth that would draw people toward his direction, and most who met him never forgot him.
We would like to give an extra special thank-you to the Infusion nurses at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center; Diane, Cathy, Ann, Patty and Kim - you were all a very special part of our lives; the staff, doctors and nurses at El Paso Children's Hospital - thank you for all of your support, not only over the past few months, but throughout our time with Gabriel. You are not just hospital staff you are our family and friends.
Thank you to our friends, family and communities for reaching out to our family with all of your love and support.
Gabriel is in the arms of Jesus now, this we know for sure,
Though in our arms we wished to keep him.
We could not let him suffer no more.
We could not be selfish anymore.
Gabriel is in the arms of Jesus now we had to let him go.
We will hold him again one day, this we know for sure!
Gabriel is in the arms of Jesus now, but we still love him so.
