Genevieve Catherine Kovacich, 87, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, in Alamogordo,. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on March 31, 1926, the first of three children born to Alexander and Katherine Belter.
She went to Central High School in St. Louis where she graduated in 1944. She then took a business course but was hired before she completed the course. She and her husband, Frank, were married on Jan. 6, 1948, at St. Laborious Church in St. Louis.
Over the next 25 years, Frank and Genevieve lived in the United States, Germany, Spain and Turkey as Frank's assignments in the Air Force sent them to many different air bases. The couple ended up at Holloman Air Force Base and retired here in Alamogordo in early 1973. Genevieve was active in the Holloman NCO club, and with her husband, Frank, in Meals on Wheels, the Holloman Air Force Base Pharmacy and the Alamogordo Garden club.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Frank Kovacich. Surviving children include Jerry Wussler and her husband, Al, Mike Kovacich and his wife, Srithorn, Rick Kovacich and his wife, Carol, and Anthony Kovacich. Surviving grandchildren are Catherine Brand, Spencer Kovacich, Genevieve Weleck, Monica Kovacich, April Kovacich and Austin Kovacich.
Genevieve lived to see the birth of two great-grandchildren Stephen and Vivienne Weleck. She is also survived by brother Edward Belter and his wife, Shirley, sister-in-law Carol Belter, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Herman Belter and son Gregory Kovacich.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel by the Altar Rosary Society. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. Jude Parish with Father Wayne Herpin, S.J., Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home prior to the Rosary.
