Isadore "Izzy" Zaleski, 95, of Alamogordo, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Oc. 5, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Izzy was born on Jan. 30, 1918, in Lockhart, Texas, to Constance and Mary Magdalene Foryszewski Zaleski.
He was on the All Central Texas football team and received a football scholarship to Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He was the football coach for the Crosby High School Buffaloes in Crosby, Texas, in 1943, before leaving to serve in WW II. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, where he was stationed in Burma as a sanitary technician.
He married the love of his life, Sarah Frances Brooks on Nov. 25, 1939, in Austin, Texas. Sarah and Izzy lived in many places over the years as he worked for Service Pipeline, and later for Mid-American Pipeline where he retired after 20 years as an Operations Manager.
He was a member of the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ. For many years he was a volunteer at the Alamogordo Senior Center delivering Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sarah Frances, parents, sisters Cornleia, Josphine, Crystal and Mary; and close friend Lorraine Bach.
Survivors include his three children, son Michael Zaleski and wife, Sylvia, and their children Steve, Ellen, Cathy, Danielle and Jessica; son Patrick Zaleski and wife, Karen, and their children Kimberly and Rick and wife, Shannon; daughter Melody Zaleski; great-grandchildren Camille, Caelyn, Julius and Ivy; brother Cy Zaleski and wife, Judy; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a close friend, Barbara Neal.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Billy Tucker and Al Maxey officiating.
The family will greet friends after the memorial service at the Bethel Baptist Church Education Building.
Inurnment will take place in Lott, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, PO Box 4777, NY NY 10163-4777.
The Zaleski family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
