James W. "Jim" Horack, Jr. passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at his home in La Luz. He was born Dec. 11, 1956, in St. Louis, Mo., to James and Mary Lahert Horack.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, riding a bike like the wind, and in his later years, golfing. He was an Indian artifact collector. Jim was a master tradesman and owner of La Luz Construction, using his special talent to design and build custom homes. He was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years. As a mentor in his community, he lived by and held many scriptures close to his heart. Jim spent much of his life telling others about Jehovah's purpose and the benefit of His kingdom. He now awaits the fulfillment of scripture John 5:28 "The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will be resurrected." Jim is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary A. Horack.
Survivors include his father James W. Horack, of Galesburg, Ill.; wife, Kathleen N. Horack, of the family home; daughter Christina M. Leon and husband, Javier; son, Jonathan A. Horack and wife Kristin; grandson, Aidan S. Leon; sisters, Debbie Schlack and husband Dave, Brenda Long and husband Dale, Linda Walters and husband Mark; brother, Rick Horack and wife Bridgett; nieces and nephews, Jason, Bart, Brody, Ami, Ashley, Alexandra, Brian, Mark, Scott, Jennifer, Angelia, Joshua, Zachary, and many relatives near and far.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel with Lance Giest officiating.
The Horack family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
