Joseph Franklin Hooten, 78, passed away on Oct. 23, 2013 at his home in Oscuro, N.M. He was born on April 1, 1935 in Paragould, Ark., to Herchell and Carrie Butler Hooten. He married the love of his life, Ina Withers, on March 28, 1958.
Mr. Hooten was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he worked several years for Ryan Aircraft. Later, he owned and operated Hooten's Hardware in Carrizozo, N.M. until his retirement. Joe was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Carrizozo.
Survivors include his son, Gary Hooten and wife Sharon of Vilonia, Ark., son, Robbie Hooten and wife Kristal of the family ranch, daughter, Sandra Setzler and husband Luke of Conway, Ark., daughter, Pattie White and husband Charles of Ft. Smith, Ark.; grandchildren, Marshall and his wife Sophie, Katrina, Erika, Morgan, Tucker, Olivia, Gracie, Patrick, and Megan; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Beckett; and sister, Mary Carroll of Vilonia.
Mr. Hooten was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Hooten, his parents, his sister, Jean Lary, and brothers, J.E. Hooten and Ed Hooten.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Carrizozo with Pastors Hayden Smith and Dean Kahlich officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dan Smelser, Hal Sims, Brian Turnbow, Hoot Gibson, Matt Ferguson and Scott Schafer.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrizozo.
The Hooten family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
