Ken A. Berry – 11/28/1937 – 7/20/2013
Ken Berry of Hatch, passed away Saturday after a heroic fight with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ken was first and foremost a family man, and worked hard all of his life to keep his family together and thriving. He and his brother Don moved their families to Silver City in 1970 and started a construction company together. A few years later, they branched out and went on their own. Later, he brought his children in as partners in the company. He was proud of his work and the reputation he built throughout southwestern New Mexico. Ken was active in Ken Berry Construction until very recently.
Ken loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed the mountains around Datil and Quemado. He was happiest at family outings, hunting trips and holiday celebrations when everyone was together. He truly enjoyed "spoiling" the grandkids, and the great-grandkids, and spent as much time with them as possible.
He is survived by Doris, his wife of 57 years, his children Mark Berry and wife, Regina, and Brenda Gomez and her husband, Martin. Three grandchildren Zachariah Berry (Marlena), Jenny Gomez (Dominic Granado) and Chris Gomez (Julie), and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Sarah) and Mike (Sandi) Berry, his sister-in-law Marilyn Berr, and numerous other relatives.
At his request, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. As per his wishes, there will be a "Farewell Party" in his honor at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the Hall in Arrey, N.M. Please come and put on your happy faces and celebrate a good man's life with us.
