Lanny D. Mead, 63, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in El Paso, Texas. He was the sixth child of Alvin and Helen F (Newbury) Mead born on Tuesday, May 10, 1949, in Portales.

He worked for 24 years in the Alamogordo Public Schools system as a special-education teacher.
In addition, he was the co-owner of Lanny and Sue's Quilting, a job corp. coordinator; owner of "Lanny's Place" at the local bowling alley and a cook for the Pine Springs Church Camp.
He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Aaron Mead (1973), his parents;, his brothers, Don and Jim Mead and his sister, Norma Contrell.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marcella Sue Mead; daughter Laura and husband, Delbert Larson, II; grandson Duncan Larson; brothers, David Mead and wife, Wanda, Ernie Mead and wife, Som, Larry Mead and wife, Doreen; sister Nedra Warren and husband, Bill, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lanny wanted to send special thanks to Sue, Laura, Duncan, Del, Margaret Smith, Mars and Letti De La Fuenta, Charlie and Mary Price, Larry and Betty Hoppes, Ray and Peggy Vincent, Jim and Alice Money, Hope Evans and "The Love Knots".
Funeral services for Lanny D Mead will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, 2301 First St., Alamogordo, with Chuck Moon officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The Mead family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
