Mary Frances Mitchell, 70, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. She was born Nov. 10, 1942, to Cyril and Annie Mae Carter.

Mary grew up in Rogers, N.M., and later Bakersfield, Calif. where she graduated from high school. She returned to Rogers and attended Easter New Mexico University in Portales where she met Richard Mitchell. They married in 1962 and had three children. They owned and operated Chalet Camper Village outside of Cloudcroft.
Mary was active in the Sacramento Mountains Historical Society and helped document old-timer stories and maintained records for the James Canyon Cemetery. She enjoyed singing, reading, crafts, genealogy and teaching Sunday School. Mary has been a resident at Betty Dare Good Samaritan Center for several years and she is glad to reach her final destination. Let us rejoice and celebrate the end of her earthly suffering. Mary is survived by her daughter Carla and husband, Gary Jones, of Cloudcroft and a son Lawrence Mitchell, of Artesia. Grandchildren Jared Mitchell, of Cloudcroft, Justin and Stacie Mitchell, of La Luz, Jordan Mitchell, of Cloudcroft, Jessica and Josh Ham, of Artesia, Brittney Mitchell, of Las Cruces, Trever Mitchell, of Morenci, Ariz., Kalyn Jones, of Socorro and Trent Jones, of Cloudcroft. Great-grandchildren Sadie and Saige Mitchell and Haygen and Brelyn Ham. Brother Derrell Carter, of Portales and numerous cousins. Mary was preceded in death by son Neil Mitchell.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Cloudcroft United Methodist Church with Rev. Eileen Utton officiating. Interment will follow at James Canyon Cemetery and Mary's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
