Mildred "Millie" Marie Criswell, 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 in Alamogordo, N.M. She was born on Aug. 20, 1927 in Hughes County, Okla. to Annie and Elvin Pettygrew.
Millie has been resident of La Luz and Alamogordo since 1999 and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Otero County she was an avid fisherwoman while living on the White River in Flippin, Ark. and during the 25 years while living in Alaska. She has left a loving legacy to her daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, sisters and brother, nieces, nephews, and friends and will be forever remembered as a great inspiration to all of her loved ones.
Mildred is survived by her six daughters, Glenda Jones (Richard), of Royce City, Texas; Rosalee Patterson (Johnny), of Hondo, N.M.; Betty Keen (Jim), of Modesto, Calif.; Freda Primera, of Alamogordo, N.M.; Joyce Grant (Steve Ragu), of Phoenix, and Billie Dickson (Dave), of Denton, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great-great granchildren, her brother Harold "Sonny" Pettygrew of Alma, Ark.; and sisters Charlene Pestoni (Marvin), of Calistoga, Calif; Carmenta Ann Needham, of Alma, Ark. and Maggie McDaniels (Ray), of Vacaville, Calif and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millie was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill Criswell in 2001, a great-grandson Zane Patterson, her parents Annie and Elvin Pettygrew and a brother-in-law Howard Needham.
Funeral services for Millie will be Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 Scenic Dr., Alamogordo with Reverend Howell Scott officiating. In honor of their grandmother the pallbearers will be her grandsons Ricky Jones, Randy Jones, Russell Patterson, Danny Primera, Wesly Primera, Shawn Grant and Stephen Primera.
Interment will follow at the Tinnie Cemetery in Tinnie, N.M.
The Criswell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Should friends or family wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers please do so to Bethel Baptist Church.
