Val Cory, 67, passed away April 1, 2014. She was born Sept. 26, 1946. Even though she was born in Olympia, Wash., she always considered Alamogordo to be her home.

Of everything that she has done in her life, what she enjoyed the most was being a gift shop manager of the International Space Hall of Fame, where she had worked for the last 14 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wes Cory.
Val is survived by her daughter Leah Wink and husband, Rusty, and their daughter Kristi Wink and fiance Daniel Teller; son James Kitching and his children Steven Landin, Desiree Landin and Seth Kitching; daughter Gracie Varbel and husband, Jamie, and their children Montana and fiance, James Wilkins, and Dakota Varbel; son Faron Cory and wife, Carena, and their daughter Makaila Cory; son Layne Cory; step-daughter Cheryal Millican and her husband, Kennith, and their children Amanda and Matthew; and her very special friend Deb Benitez.
Val was loved by many and she touched so many hearts throughout her life. Those who loved her referred to her as Mom.
Cremation has already taken place.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church, in Alamogordo, with a potluck reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to CAPPED.
