Fred R Henderson, 87, passed away on May 2, 2014.
He was born April 13, 1927, to Orman and Bessie Neely Barnes Henderson in Jackson, Tenn.

After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he was hired by the United States Postal Service, before moving his family from Tennessee to Roswell and later to Alamogordo.

He worked in the Civil Engineering Department at Holloman Air Force Base until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement he opened Henderson's Drafting Service and created house plans for many area contractors. As an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, he faithfully served on the Board of Trustees, the Stewardship Committee, as a delegate to the New Mexico Annual Conference. He was a member of United Methodist Men. Fred was a wonderful husband and devoted father. In addition to his love for gardening, he liked fishing and traveling. He was involved with and supportive of the kids' many activities including baseball and the Alamogordo High School Tiger Triad Booster Club.

Fred was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Ann Shelton, and his second wife of 21 years, Sally S. Piro, as well as son Phillip Henderson and a step-great-grandchild August Julian-Alfaro.

He is survived by sons: Sherman Henderson and his wife Alma of Albuquerque, Frank Henderson and his wife Jan of Georgetown, Ky.; daughter, Sheila Carlson and husband Marc of Wausau, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Mercia Henderson of Beach Park, Ill.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Additionally he is survived by a stepdaughter, Nancy Julian and husband John of Alamogordo, and stepson Joe Piro of California, as well as five step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1206 Greenwood Ln., Alamogordo, with Rev. Harry Riser officiating. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred Elliot, Johnny Julian, Russell Henderson, Don Maurer, John Thomas and John Julian. Honorary Pallbearers will be Emmett Bannerman, Don Brumbaugh, Richard Kondo, Tom Richardson, George Stecher and Mike Drunzer.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Emanuel Scholarship Fund at Grace United Methodist Church.
