Betty Lou (Robertson) Gardner went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 15, 2014.

She was born Sept. 1, 1927, to Floyd and Mary Alma Robertson in Willcox, Ariz. She grew up in Clovis where she met and married her husband, Elmer Joe Gardner. Elmer Joe was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp when they married, and they soon relocated to Germany for a three-year tour. After leaving the military, they moved to Alamogordo in 1962, where they owned several small businesses. Betty was always Joe's right hand in their business pursuits.

Betty was a loving and devoted mother and wife. Along with Joe, they were very active in their children's lives by being scout leaders, sports coaches, youth leaders in their church and sponsors of various school activities. After retiring, Betty and Joe were avid members of the Elks Lodge 1897 and the Desert Lakes Golf Course. Betty was a member of the Alamogordo Women's Golf Association and together with Joe, they helped form the Sunday Couples Golf League. Betty was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, her mother, her father, two sisters, a brother, a daughter-in-law and a grandson.

She is survived by their children Joe Ridley Gardner and his wife Anna of Carlsbad; Bethany Dexter and her husband Luin (Dex) of Alamogordo; Chandell Gill and her husband Greg of Alamogordo, and Kevin Gardner of Carlsbad. In addition, she has eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Betty is also survived by two brothers Bill Robertson of Victoria, Texas, and Jerry Reynolds and his wife Beverly of Chaparral.

Memorial services for Betty will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church to be presented to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home in Portales.

The Gardner family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
