Geneva Hampton Brooks, 70
Geneva Brooks entered her eternal rest on August 4, 2014, at El Paso's Del Sol Medical Center, where she passed away of natural causes after a brief stay in intensive care.

She was born in Sumter, S.C., on Dec. 28, 1943, to AJ Peterson and Rosalee Hampton. Geneva graduated from Sumter High School in 1963, enrolling at Allen University in Columbia, S.C., soon after. In her strong, family-oriented fashion, she dropped out after two years to care for her grandmother.
In September 1965, she married Bill Brooks in Belton, Texas. She proudly accompanied her husband wherever his lengthy career in the United States Air Force relocated them. During their 31 year marriage they had three sons. The family permanently settled in Alamogordo in 1977.
Geneva became a CNA, working several years at Betty Dare Good Samaritan Society and at the Opportunity Center. She was a true caregiver, always putting others as a priority before herself. Ironically she was residing at Betty Dare at the time of her passing.
Geneva was affectionately known as Mama Brooks because she could make anyone she met feel like instant family. She had been a member of Kiwanis and her sons' biggest fan at their sporting events. Teammates recall her famous fried chicken that she made for them. She was a devoted mother, who maintained a loving home, and a faithful woman of God. This was evident in how she courageously and without complaint accepted her medical issues that afflicted her the past few years. Mama Brooks was a soft-spoken, kind, forgiving, tender-hearted and gracious woman. She was at peace when she went to meet her Savior and reunite with both of her parents. She may be gone, but her light remains.

Survivors include sons, Eric J. Brooks and Darren Brooks, both of Alamogordo, and Gregory Brooks of Tallahasee, Fla.; brother, George Hampton of Maysville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel.

The Brooks family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
