Larry Crumrine Obituary

Colonel, U.S.A.F., Ret.
Larry Crumrine, 73, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014, at his home in Alamogordo, with his loving wife Leila by his side.
Larry was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Hazelton, Idaho, where he attended grade school. He graduated from Valley High School in 1959.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Raymond and Edith Crumrine, long time residents of Hazelton and Twin Falls, Idaho.

Larry graduated in 1963 from McPherson College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He went on to Southern Methodist University, where he obtained a master's degree in engineering administration in 1974. Between his college pursuits, he joined the Peace Corps where he taught school in Aghbor, Nigeria, from 1964 through 1965.
Following his Peace Corps assignment, Larry joined the United States Air Force in 1966. He spent 27 years serving his country as a fighter pilot and other positions, rising to the rank of Colonel. He retired in 1992. During his career he amassed 845 combat flying hours in the F-4 Phantom fighter, during the Viet Nam Conflict. He earned numerous awards, including Distinguished Flying Cross w/1 BOLC, Air Medal w/28 BOLC, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, and Legion of Merit. Larry was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Larry is survived by his wife Leila (Falkenburry) Crumrine whom he met and married in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 1982. He is survived too by three children, Mark Crumrine of Carson City, Nev., Darrell Crumrine of Wilmington, Ohio, and Heidi Clarke of Dale City, Va. and sisters Carol Davis of Hemet, Calif. and Kathy Clark of Eden, Idaho. He also leaves behind six grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, August 21, in the Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Chuck Moon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.

The Crumrine family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
