William Elmer Marr, 90, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Tularosa. He was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Alto to Elice Elmer and Minerva (Brooke) Marr.

He graduated from New Mexico State University in December 1942. He then joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Philippines, where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army National Guard as a colonel in 1980.
He was a member of the Tularosa Masonic Lodge No. 49, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite in Las Cruces, the Tularosa Lions Club, and was a charter member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 1897. He owned the Bear Trap Lounge in Tularosa for a little more than 50 years.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Marr, of Rio Rancho; two daughters, Nancy Marr, of Tularosa, and Jo Marr, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; four grandsons, Bryan Adamson and his wife, Julie, of St. George, Utah, Randy Adamson and his wife, Amber, of Holly Springs, N.C., Clay Adamson and his wife, Sara Jane, of Dededo, Guam, and Chad Adamson and his wife, Shelley, of Grand Prairie, Texas; two granddaughters, Jodi McFarlin, of Tularosa, and Jordin Marr, of Rio Rancho; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister Elsie Wilson and her husband, Mack, of El Paso.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Foster) Marr, in 2007; a son, Tony Simion, in 2008; and a daughter, Tobette Rodgers, in 2007.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, 1334 N. Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, with military Honors provided by the U.S. Army.
The Marr family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
