Frank "Poncho" Paz was born in Alamogordo on Oct. 24, 1955, and passed away in a tragic car accident on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, in Billings, Mont.

He is preceded in death by his father Simon N. Paz.
He was raised on the Mescalero Apache Reservation until the age of 10 when his family moved to Washington state. Frank held memberships in the PRCA, Western States, and Rocky Mountain and Southwest All-Indian Rodeo associations. Frank was known as a hard-working man and member of the Carpenters and Millwrights Union Local 1172. He was called upon by many to enlist his skills of carpentry, roofing, flooring, masonry, ranch hand and farrier. Frank was never known to turn down a job.
Survivors include his wife, Lark (Real Bird); daughters Jordynn and Dealyn, and son-in-law Tony Chimal; sons Milo and Thurman; five grandchildren, Julie, Jesslin, James, Perico and Brooke; mother Margaret Paz; four sisters Carol DittBenner, Celia, Henri and Linda Paz; and brother Ben Paz.
Frank will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A mass in memoriam will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Apache Mission in Mescalero. A potluck will follow in the parish hall.
