Richard E. Dukes Jr., 58, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in Alamogordo. He was born Oct. 6, 1954, in Baltimore to Richard and Sandra Sweiton Dukes.

Richard was a graduate of Seaford Senior High School in Seaford, Del. He entered the U.S. Air Force, where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant. He graduated with honors from tech school in Illinois. He was based at Holloman Air Force Base, where his last duty was with the 49th Civil Engineering Squadron.
Richard was a longtime employee of the New Mexico Museum of Space History. He became the supervisor of the exhibit support building (restoration of artifacts).
Richard loved his land in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains. He also loved anything to do with aerospace and aeronautics. He was also a Ham operator for some time.
He was a loving father, son and brother. Richard will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his mother Sandra Lee Wisecup and husband, Charles, of Alamogordo; daughter Sarah Nicole Dukes, of Tea, S.D.; brothers Joseph Lee Dukes and David Brian Dukes, of Alamogordo; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Delaware.
He was preceded in death by father Richard Eugene Dukes.
Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Deacon Pete Schumacher officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
The Dukes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home, to direct the arrangements. Cremation has taken place at PCS.
