Edward J. Dutra, of Alamogordo, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the Mescalero Care Center.
He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Providence, R.I. Edward spent 30 years in the U.S. Air Force serving his country. After retirement from the military, Ed and his wife, Peggy, relocated to the Land of Enchantment, where they ran a small kennel in Alamogordo for several years.
Ed appreciated the peaceful things in life such as gardening, woodworking, caring for his dogs and playing cards with his friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family, having his mind stimulated by political talk shows and crosswords, and had great patience for teaching his grandchildren the practical tasks in life, such as car and household repairs.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Peggy L. Dutra, in 2009.
He is also survived by twin sons Lamont and Lance Dutra; his sister Edna Deware; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The Dutra family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of Ed's friends who were so helpful to him and the family over the last several years, allowing Ed to remain in his own home as long as possible.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel with Chaplain Chuck Moon presiding.
Edward and Peggy's ashes will later be scattered by Heritage Air of Albuquerque.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent to Operation Homefront at 8930 Fourwinds Drive, Suite 340; San Antonio, TX 78239.
