Duane Allen Alvis, 62, passed from this life on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at his home in Alamorosa. He was born in Houston, Texas, to Garland B. and Joan E. Alvis on Feb. 13, 1951.
He was raised in Ruidoso. He spent his youth working with horses, his middle years as a brick mason and his later years as an artist.
He is preceded in death by his parents Garland Billy and Joan Elizabeth, his sister Colleen and nephew Jeremy Chad Washam.
He is survived by his son John Allen Cooper (Diedra) and grandchildren Aedan and Analiesa, of Garden Grove, Calif. He is also survived by his brother Michael L. Alvis, of Alamogordo, and his sisters Sharon L. Beaty (Alan), of Glenwood, and Kathleen A. Spears (Jerry), of Johnson City, Texas. His nieces and nephews are Michael Sean Washam (Charla) and Rachel and Jared Spears. Also surviving are three great nephews, Dalton, Dyllan and Coen and one great niece Alexandria.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Angus Cemetery in Angus, N.M., with the family officiating.
The Alvis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at PCS.
