Virginia "Vivi" Martinez Gonzalez was born on Oct. 30,1936 in Alamogordo to Florentino and Carolina Saenz Martinez. She had 12 siblings: Beatrice Valle, Rufina Maez, Hortencia Brickl, Luisa Acuna, Genoveva Brusuelas, Carolina Rodriguez, Carmen Maese, Dolores Moya, Manuel, Salvador and Frank Martinez. Vivi grew up in Alamogordo where she met her husband, Ramiro Gonzalez, in 1955 at a dance. At that time, he was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base and following a tour of duty in Thule Greenland, they became engaged and were married on Dec. 28, 1957. They then moved to El Paso where she dedicated herself to raising their four children: Orlando, Ramiro Jr. (Jo), Olga and Irma (Hector). She was a member of the Rusk School and was also a teacher's assistant. She was deeply religious and was involved in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the church's choir. Vivi is survived by her husband Ramiro of 55 years; their four children; grandchildren: Joseph, Stephen, Andrew and Gregory; step grandchildren, Yvonne and Amanda; and two great grandchildren, Zara and James. She loved all of them dearly, as well as all her family and friends. Vivi loved singing and dancing and she had a smile for everyone. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass will start at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in El Paso.
