Bill Collins, 86, passed away on March 26, 2014, in El Paso. He was born on July 19, 1927, in Ranger, Texas, to John I. and Hazel (Tarrant) Collins.
He graduated from Alamogordo High School. He attended Western New Mexico University where he played football. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He owned many businesses in the Alamogordo area. He fulfilled his dream by ranching. He was a pilot for many years.
Survivors include wife of 35 years, Emmie Collins, of El Paso; son Brett Collins and wife, Betty, of Livingston, Texas; daughter Cheryl Petree, of Alamogordo; son Jim Paxon and wife, Melissa, of Zavalla, Texas; grandchildren Coy, Casey, Dusty and wife, Michelle, Toby Petree, Nicholas, James and Brayden Paxon; great-granddaughter Casen Collins of Alamogordo; brother John Collins and wife, Elizabeth, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; the mother of his children, Nancy Collins, of Alamogordo and many life-long friends too numerous to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son,Shane Collins and his wife, Bonnie, his brother Joe Bob Collins and his sister Hazel Adams.
The memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, in the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel where his beloved friend Mike Haymes will say a few words.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Blankenship, James Evrage, George Rauch, Bobby Jones, Joel Danley, Vicente Rodarte, Brian Muise and Bebo Lee.
The Collins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
