ALEXANDER, Mavis Eileen May 09, 1953 - December 16, 2014 The family of Mavis Alexander are deeply saddened to announce that Mavis passed away on December 16, 2013 after a five year battle with cancer. Mavis had a long journey with this horrendous disease and it is very difficult, even now to come to terms with the loss of such a remarkable woman. Mavis was a kind, spiritual person who held a close affinity with both pets and friends. Whether it was Lux the cat who chose to have Mavis as her pet, Sable the Princess, Brux the drop-in visitor, or Jack, her late springer spaniel who "taught me how to be a better human" she adored and admired them all. She carried her compassion into her many years working with physically and mentally challenged and she had a profound insight and awareness of the abilities of each individual she cared for. And she did truly care. She leaves behind her beloved partner of 13 years, David Owen, as well as her daughter Sideras (Varo) Remirez , step-children Colby Owen, Simon Bright, Erin Hessler, Bobbie (Anthony) Hessler, Victoria (Aaron) Vick, Nancy (Todd) Cooper. Mavis also leaves the legacy of her treasured grandchildren; Efraine, Sol, Charles, Amelia, and Samuel David. The family would like to especially thank the nursing staff of 3 North at the Campbell River and District General Hospital for their above and beyond care, as well as a special thank you to Sarah Curts for giving so much of herself during this difficult time. It was gratefully appreciated. Donations in Mavis' memory may be sent to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation in honour of her love and compassionate service to others. Condolences may be left for the family at: campbellriverfunerals.com
