Jerry Don Pollard, 62, of Altus, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 2014, at English Village Manor in Altus.
Mr. Pollard was born on Oct. 23, 1951, in Altus, to Earl Monte and Olga Faye (Sprabary) Pollard. After attending Eugene Field Elementary, Central Junior High and Southeast Junior High, Jerry graduated from Altus High in 1969. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for the next six years. For four of those years, Jerry was on the Nuclear Submarine USS Lapon where he served as an Electronics Technician and Diver. His unit earned a Navy Unit Commendation (which is the same as a Silver Star) for their operations in the Mediterranean during the "Yom Kipper" war in 1973. His ship spent most of the time in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean around Cuba, Bermuda, Bahamas and the Virgin Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. Before returning to Oklahoma he lived in the Phoenix, Ariz. area. The last few years of his life he worked as a plant maintenance technician for manufacturing facilities.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Olga Faye Pollard; a brother, Daniel Earl Pollard; and a grandson, Johnathan Pollard.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Pollard and wife Amanda of Las Vegas, Nev., Jason Pollard of Las Vegas, and Rudy Hill and wife of Reno, Nev.; two granddaughters, Paula Pollard of Las Vegas, and Winter Rose Hill of Reno;and one grandson, Ben Hill of Reno; his father, Earl Pollard of Altus; two brothers, Randy Pollard of Altus and Terry Pollard of Burneyville; and a special aunt, Dana Booker of Headrick, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Synette Matthews and Pastor Greg Hawn officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends on Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
