Arlis Henry Motley, 89, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at Tamarack Assisted Living Center in Altus. Funeral services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with Pastor Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment was to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis. The family received friends Monday at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis.

Arlis Henry Motley was born July 6, 1924, to J.H. (Henry) and Fannie Motley. J.H. (Henry) was a farmer. Fannie was a homemaker and artist. Arlis married Alice Marie Bassel on Sept. 11, 1942 at the Methodist parsonage in Hollis. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing. To this marriage were born two fine daughters, Arline and Audrey, and two ornery boys, Harold and James.

Arlis was a resident of Harmon County the majority of his lifetime, other than a change of residency to Texas while living on Lake Texoma, and two and one-half years in assisted living in Altus.

Arlis and Alice Marie loved working with evangelists, missionaries, medical teams, local churches and prisons. They trained people to be soul winners and brought people to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Their work carried them to numerous states and countries including Belize, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Mexico.

Arlis was a generous and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Arlis is survived by two daughters, Arline Constance of Lewisville, Texas, and Audrey Eggers and her husband Delles of Morrison; one son, James Motley and his wife Jana of Hollis; one daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Motley of Norman; four grandsons, Larry Rath and his wife Kathryn of Fort Smith, Ark., Tim Eggers of Shenandoah, Iowa, Jared Motley and his wife Rebekah of Hollis, and Jesse Motley and his wife Emily of Altus; five granddaughters, Debbie Sparks and her husband Wayne of Oklahoma City, Roxanne Joslin and her husband Nicholas of Leavenworth, Kan., Amy Stewart and her husband Josh of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Julie Jarnagin and her husband Kevin of Norman, and Joy Luce and her husband Darrion of Hollis; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Motley was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie; his parents, J.H. and Fannie Motley; one brother, Harold Motley; two sisters, Ladessa McBrayer and Ardena Garrison; one son, Harold Motley; and one granddaughter, Carrie Ruth Eggers.
